Town Hall (March 1)

A recording of the Town Hall can be found here and is also summarized below.

Background

  • What is a map reset? Why do we have to do this?
    • A map reset is when we take our main (Economy) map and effectively set it back to 0. This means that the towns will be going, and the main map will be changing back to a blank slate for everyone.
    • This process is necessary because as maps age, they get laggier and more corrupted, especially on servers like ours, which face several block changes in specific areas, as well as leveraging of plugins to manipulate entities, like our Armor Stand Editor. (Example: Nerdfighteria Island)
    • This map is the oldest map in Nerdcrafteria history, being just shy of 5 years old upon reset. (For comparison, the previous oldest map was just shy of 4 years old)
  • When is this reset happening?
    • This is planned for late August 2025.
    • We will be hosting a huge send-off party before then to say goodbye to the map, and provide time to reminisce and celebrate all the fun times we’ve had on this map.
  • Is this the only thing we’re doing this year?
    • No! We have several things planned leading up to the reset, and the server itself is not going away.
    • Keep an eye out for the newsletter bulletins as well as another roadmap post that will detail everything happening from now until the map reset!

General Questions

  • What happens to the map file?
    • We will be making it available as a download for you to enjoy in single player, similar to previous maps!
    • This download will have all chests wiped. This is to preserve privacy because we recognize people have private items and other things that they don’t want leaked into the general internet.
    • We will be providing a list of coordinates to specific areas, mainly towns, that people can reference to find things.
  • Since Hecc is the first Nether-based town, will there be issues hosting it in the map download?
    • Staff will test this and report our findings.
    • Worst case scenario, we can hand you a copy of the Nether world with Hecc in it.
  • Will any of the rules change?
    • We are not anticipating any sort of overhaul to the Code of Conduct as part of the reset.
    • There may be some tweaks a few months following the reset pending on upgrades and new features, and how the new mechanics interact with our server.
  • Is there anything non-staff can do to help?
    • We probably won’t ask for help on the main town. We generally like to keep the starter town as a surprise as staff’s gift to the players after the map reset.
    • If there is interest in helping with towns post reset, we can reconsider the involvement of players in town building.
      • Transparently, the last town we tried this on was Yeti Valley, where we did not get much engagement and staff had to step in to finish it out.

Economy Questions

  • Will the economy fundamentally stay the same?
    • Yes. There will still be an ashop, plots will continue to cost money, and you can still use llamas to buy and sell things to fellow players.
    • We are looking into fun, other ways to earn llamas, depending on if an upgrade happens.
  • Will you get to keep your llamas?
    • No. Economy resets are a part of map resets.
    • Staff needs to scale plot prices to the wealth at large. If we were to allow players to keep llamas, it would make even starter plot prices practically unpurchasable to anyone who joins the server.
  • Will I get a sentimental (senti) chest?
    • A senti chest is a chest of items that you will potentially get to carry over to the new map, provided they do not have any economic value (No weapons, armor, blocks of diamond, etc.)
    • We are currently testing the feasibility of chest transfer. Minecraft is changing the way item and block metadata is handled in 1.21. If an upgrade happens, there is a possibility that the items would lose the aspects that make them sentimental. We will keep you posted.
  • Will you get to keep your warps?
    • No. There is no way to port warps to the new map. You will need to repurchase your warps.
  • Since the reset is happening in the middle of the month, could we put items we want to save into the current explore world, have the main map reset, and then move things back?
    • No. The whole version would change for all maps, which would break metadata as a whole.
    • Explore would also be shut down during the reset and would likely be reset while the new map is being loaded anyway.
  • Is there villager potential in the new world?
    • We’re not planning on changing anything dramatic at the beginning. We will evaluate a few months following the relaunch.
  • Is there a way, without severely overworking staff, to transfer llama balance into a redeemable for a new tag or something?
    • We will discuss internally and let you know when we come to a decision!
    • Possible idea: Moneybags tag for anyone that has a certain llama threshold at the map’s closing.
  • Will there be any more Market Weeks before reset?
    • Market Weeks are ways we let you trade with villagers in order to maintain economy stability. We include both vanilla villagers and custom villagers for fun items.
    • Full transparency, we are running out of things to send to y’all. 🙂
    • We will look into the feasibility of running one last Market Week as part of the map sendoff.
  • What about artificial rarity?
    • We have done this before on the server and people have generally not enjoyed it, so we will not implement this.

Donation Store & VIP

  • Are VIP plots going to be a thing?
    • Yes. We are going to roll them out ASAP once the map resets. (tentatively end of year)
    • You will not get to keep your current VIP plot. The map itself will be changing.
  • Will VIP boons continue?
    • Yes. You will be able to continue to get your periodic fly boons.
  • Will I keep extra homes that I purchased through P4A?
    • Yes. We ask that you remain patient following the reset as we may need to wrangle permissions as part of the reset and potential upgrade.
  • Will I be able to keep my Plough Lane box?
    • Yes. We are planning to port Plough Lane into the new map.
    • Chests will be wiped when Plough Lane is ported over.
  • Will I keep my nickname perms?
    • Yes.
  • Will I keep my tags?
    • Tags will depend on how nicely an upgrade plays for us. As it stands, our current tag plugin seems to play nice with the new version, so we anticipate that you can keep your tags. We will update you if anything changes on this front.
  • Will you get to carry over P4A mending books?
    • No. We do not have a good way of telling who has or has not redeemed a particular kit.
    • We anticipate the P4A mending book coming back during next year’s P4A as another stretch goal.
    • We cannot delay the perk to the new map. We would prefer to not delay a perk earned by the playerbase for 6 months just for an easier start on the new world.

Map-Related Questions

  • What will happen to Beanburg?
    • We indeed teased that Beanburg will be incorporated into the new map.
    • We will not be porting it directly to the new map. Instead, Beanburg plot owners at the time of map closing will be given two options.
      • If you have a completed build, you may have that build wiped of chests and turned into a server build. You may then buy a new plot in Beanburg, while your old plot acts as a server build to add to the growing Beanburg skyline.
      • You may have your plot wiped and placed back up for sale if you want to buy the same plot and build again.
  • Is there any potential issues porting banners or item frames across?
    • Short answer, yes. This is much in the same way we are concerned about moving senti chests, due to detailed metadata and the changes in the new version to the formatting.
  • What about Hecc?
    • We are leaning towards rereleasing Hecc, but a few months after the launch of the new map.
    • We will have quite a number of plots at launch of the new map, and adding Hecc would probably be more plots than players. It also gives staff a breather and ensures that things are running smoothly before introducing more things.
  • What about Creative?
    • We’re still doing testing, but the plan is for Creative to continue as normal, pending a version upgrade.
    • If our current plugin does not play nice with a version upgrade, we will do a creative reset a few months following the launch of the new map. We will keep you guys posted on any details, including any potential transfer of creative builds.
